Who makes sign art for NM roadways!

For years I've wondered who designed the "elk" sign for New Mexico. The hump in the back, the hind legs too short...I mean this is a state known fort its population of artists and this is all they could come up with? Then, on our last trip home, I noticed a different sign, this one near the Raton pass--also of an "elk". I'm not sure it is really any improvement. I'm sorry my camera wasn't out on the way up the pass in Colorado because the "bear crossing" sign actually looked like a bear! What do you think?

  1. That first sign is a riot! I've always noticed our deer signs differ from Province to Province, here in Canada. Some more look more well fed, than others, some jump high, some running flat out....but never looking like they've already been hit!

  2. Neck is too short in the second sign. But they at least have the nose up so the head is flat with the horizon like they do.

The road signs I like are on the road to the Taos ski valley. Someone has take all the cattle crossing signs and added UFO's and magnetic waves. They are quite entertaining.

  3. I thought the same thing a few weeks ago when we saw some of those on our roadtrip.
